Study in UK

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

a) Undergraduate studies
Most institutions in the UK consider the results in the High School leaving exams of your country for entry to undergraduate degree progammes depending on the country you are from. The following qualifications provide entry for most of the undergraduate courses at a range of universities:

  • A-Level
  • STPM
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
  • Canadian Pre University Programme (Ontario Grade 13 certificate)
  • South/Western Australian Matriculation Programme

If you do not achieve the desire grades to gain direct admission to a degree course, you could join courses that are known as the foundation programmes. These programmes usually last for one academic year. Another option is to join a Higher National Diploma (HND) programme or Foundation Degree (FdSc/FdA). Both are two year programme and roughly equivalent to the first two years of a degree programme. On successful complete of the programme you may be able to enter the second or third year of a relevant degree programme in the UK. You may be able to enter the 2nd/3rd year of relevant degree courses-known as advanced standing. A good advanced/higher diploma can get you into the 2nd year of most charter universities and the final year of some statue universities.

b) Postgraduate studies
You are required to have at least a higher second or first division in your bachelor degree programme. Some universities will insist on a first division. In addition some universities will accept students with lower marks if they have professional qualifications or good relevant work experience. There are some select courses that might require relevant work experience for a couple of years in a relevant field.

c) MBA
Most of the MBA degrees require applicant to have some work experience (at least 2 to 3 years of full time work experience) in either a related field or at an appropriate managerial role. A good first degree and a good GMAT score are essential to support your application.

d) English Language Requirements
Candidates whose first language is not English normally need to have a qualification in English Language before they can be admitted to any course. IELTS and TOEFL are the English Language testing methods that are most favored. A general guide to the accepted English language entry requirements for most institutions is outlined below.

  • IELTS of Band 6 for Undergraduate study and Band 6.5 for Postgraduate
  • TOEFL 550(PBT)/213 (CBT) for Undergraduate study and 575(PBT)/235(CBT) for Postgraduate study.
  • GCSE O-Level English - Grade C or above
Note:
  • Medicine, Dentistry and Law usually require higher score.
  • If you do not achieve the required English requirement, you may enroll in 1 semester/2 semesters Pre-sessional English before join the Undergraduate/Postgraduate study.
